Zhipu AI (智谱AI) is a Chinese artificial intelligence company founded in 2019, spun out of Tsinghua University's Knowledge Engineering Group. The company develops the GLM (General Language Model) family of large language models. Zhipu has achieved notable technical milestones including training its GLM-5 model entirely on Huawei Ascend chips using MindSpore, demonstrating China's capability to develop frontier AI systems independent of US semiconductor hardware. The company has positioned itself in the open-weights model space, releasing models under permissive licenses.

Also known as
