Equal Opportunity

A relaxed fairness metric requiring only equal true positive rates across demographic groups.

Equal opportunity is a fairness metric that requires equal true positive rates across groups, but does not constrain false positive rates. If a qualified candidate applies, they should have the same probability of being correctly identified as qualified regardless of group membership. This is often the pragmatic choice when false negatives (missing good candidates) matter more than false positives. It is a relaxation of equalized odds that is easier to satisfy while still providing meaningful fairness guarantees.
